Hussain Manawer meets Scott Kelly

We would be lying if we said we didn’t think that sometimes we help make dreams come true.

When we were planning our interview with NASA Astronaut Scott Kelly (click here to watch James Gilmore’s interview), we knew that there was at least one other person who just had to meet the American hero.

Hussain Manawer is a renowned spoken word poet, mental health advocate and future space tourist. In 2015, Hussain (from Essex, London) won a competition to become the first British Muslim to go to space – a prize expected to be delivered in 2018, after he has been put through a training programme.

It only made sense to make sure that he had the opportunity to ask Scott Kelly a few, choice questions exclusively for W!ZARD Radio Station.

In his new book ‘Endurance’, Scott Kelly touches on what’s happened to his body, the sadness of being isolated from everyone he loves; the pressures of constant close cohabitation; the catastrophic risks of colliding with space junk, and the still more haunting threat of being absent should tragedy strike at home.

Watch what happened, below...

Interview with Scott Kelly

The veteran of four space flights and the American record holder for the most consecutive days spent in space, NASA Astronaut Scott Kelly has experienced things very few of us ever have and very few of us ever will.

His landmark, fourth spaceflight in 2015/16 saw him spend 11 months aboard the International Space Station as part of an experiment to understand better how the human body reacts and adapts to the harsh environment of space. As part of this research, he was compared alongside his astronaut twin brother, Mark Kelly.

Interview with Ken MacLeod

Interview with Ken MacLeod

During W!ZARD Radio Station’s Space Special on Friday 20th October 2017, we explored the adventure and endless possibilities of space – featuring discussions about NASA astronaut Scott Kelly’s new book and an interview with Tim Peake.

One man who captures that imagination in the best way is bestselling author Ken MacLeod.

MacLeod is a science fiction author behind works such as the Prometheus Award winning ‘Fall Revolution’ series, the Clarke Award nominated ‘Engines of Light’ trilogy and his latest trilogy, ‘The Corporation Wars’.

One of the things which ties all of these series together is a passion for science fiction and a keen eye on what the future of the world may look like; in particular, where our space discovery may lead us.

In the final instalment of ‘The Corporation Wars’ – ‘Emergence’ – MacLeod tells an epic science fiction adventure, told against a backdrop of interstellar drone warfare, virtual reality and an AI revolution.

James Gilmore interviewed Ken MacLeod live on-air as part of W!ZARD Radio Station’s Space Special about the new book and his love for space.

Broadcasted exclusively worldwide on W!ZARD Radio Station.
