Underdog: Kayla Brianna / Amir Obe / Mayzin

22nd February 2016 | Hot 4

Each week, Nicolas-Tyrell Scott brings three upcoming hip-hop artists to the forefront in his Underdog competition. All you need to do is listen and vote to your favourite Underdog to win.

This week your three Underdog's are...

Kayla Brianna - Launching her career balancing school and the studio, she's definitely one to watch. Her vocals instantly evoke a Keri Hilson/Amerie/Cassie soundscape. She also adds her own flare to tracks and has a really nice and dynamic vocal. She was discovered by Ron Fair; an A&R who’s worked with Christina Aguilera, Mary J Blige, Black-Eyed Peas.

Amir Obe - Having production credits on a Drake album already on his list of achievements, Amir Obe is now ready to step into his own artistic lane. With a sound which incorporates laid back R&B and trap Amir knows who and what he wants to be in this industry. His latest offering “Happening In The Grey Area” has received mass social media attention and a lot of industry buzz also.

Mayzin - Born and raised in Oakland California, Mayzin steps out to give you a refreshing and organic sound which can’t be ignored. Conceptually he raps about giving back to the family, pleasing his lover and trying to make it. His slow and laid back approach is definitely appealing and his mixtape “Something I Wanted” really allows you to get to know who Mayzin is as an artist.

The winner will be announced on Nicolas-Tyrell Scott's show on Saturday 20th February 2016, between 12pm and 1pm! Don't forget to vote and support your favourite Underdog.

Underdog: Jazz Cartier / Anderson Paak / DVSN

13th February 2016 | Hot 4

Each week, Nicolas-Tyrell Scott brings three upcoming hip-hop artists to the forefront in his Underdog competition. All you need to do is listen and vote to your favourite Underdog to win.

This week your three Underdog's are...

Jazz Cartier - Canada's hip-hop scene is blowing up right now, and Jazz Cartier has risen to be one of the pioneers of this movement. On the cusp of his buzz right now, he just dropped his album “Hotel Paranoia” which has received mass attention from outlets such as The Fader, Complex and XXL. His confidence is very refreshing over the unique beats and proves why he is a force to be reckoned with and just might have the formula to stick in this industry!

Anderson Paak - He's been around for a couple of years now and has finally secured his big break, a deal with Dr Dre's Aftermath Records. Artistically, he has a classic sound, but then he combines it with a variety of sound-pallets including soul, funk, experimental hip hop. Together it feels so natural and for the soul. He’s already been compared to the likes of Pharrell as well.

DVSN - The Canadian artists identity has been constantly debated and looked into for months. What we do know is that the singer is heating up Canada’s presence and like Jazz Cartier he’s making a real name for himself beyond Canadian territory. He’s also been noticed by Drake’s camp. In terms of sound, he’s very consistent, and experiments with industrial and new wave R&B evoking euphoric soundscapes.

The winner will be announced on Nicolas-Tyrell Scott's show on Saturday 13th February 2016, between 12pm and 1pm! Don't forget to vote and support your favourite Underdog.
