Underdog: Jazz Cartier / Anderson Paak / DVSN

13th February 2016 | Hot 4

Each week, Nicolas-Tyrell Scott brings three upcoming hip-hop artists to the forefront in his Underdog competition. All you need to do is listen and vote to your favourite Underdog to win.

This week your three Underdog's are...

Jazz Cartier - Canada's hip-hop scene is blowing up right now, and Jazz Cartier has risen to be one of the pioneers of this movement. On the cusp of his buzz right now, he just dropped his album “Hotel Paranoia” which has received mass attention from outlets such as The Fader, Complex and XXL. His confidence is very refreshing over the unique beats and proves why he is a force to be reckoned with and just might have the formula to stick in this industry!

Anderson Paak - He's been around for a couple of years now and has finally secured his big break, a deal with Dr Dre's Aftermath Records. Artistically, he has a classic sound, but then he combines it with a variety of sound-pallets including soul, funk, experimental hip hop. Together it feels so natural and for the soul. He’s already been compared to the likes of Pharrell as well.

DVSN - The Canadian artists identity has been constantly debated and looked into for months. What we do know is that the singer is heating up Canada’s presence and like Jazz Cartier he’s making a real name for himself beyond Canadian territory. He’s also been noticed by Drake’s camp. In terms of sound, he’s very consistent, and experiments with industrial and new wave R&B evoking euphoric soundscapes.

The winner will be announced on Nicolas-Tyrell Scott's show on Saturday 13th February 2016, between 12pm and 1pm! Don't forget to vote and support your favourite Underdog.

Underdog: Eric Bellinger / IAMSU / Samm Henshaw

6th December 2015 | Hot 4

Each week, Nicolas-Tyrell Scott brings three upcoming hip-hop artists to the forefront in his Underdog competition. All you need to do is listen and vote to your favourite Underdog to win.

This week your three Underdog's are...

Eric Bellinger - he's been cruising the R&B arena since 2009. He dropped his debut in 2014 to moderate success (#23) and an even higher score with his 2015 project ‘Cuffing Season’ (#6) on the US R&B charts. He's also partially responsible for Chris Brown's ‘Fine China’ and Justin Bieber's ‘Right Here’. Eric is definitely one to watch in the urban industry a his presence is intensifying by the day.

IAMSU - Producer and hip-hop artist who has been active since 2007. He dropped his debut LP last year (#50 on Billboard), but his social media presence seems to counter these figures. His poduction credits are growing by the year, having already worked with acts such as Tinashe and YG, his sound is out of this world.

Samm Henshaw - This UK talent is on the rise in terms of diversifying the pallet. Signed to Columbia, Sam recently dropped his project ‘The Sound Experiment’ which has received heavy critical acclaim from outlets such as BBC. He's now been announced as one of Google Play's Sounds of 2016 as well as one of BBC's prestigious Sounds of 2016. (Edited: Samm Henshaw did indeed graduate from University.)

The winner will be announced on Nicolas-Tyrell Scott's show on Saturday 13th December 2015, between 12pm and 1pm! Don't forget to vote and support your favourite Underdog.
