As the BRIT Awards look to become more inclusive and diverse, in our series 'Grime @ The BRIT Awards', Myles McCaulskey looks into grime's increasing prevalence at music's biggest night in Britain
Nomination: British Single (Girls Like feat. Zara Larsson), British Artist Video of the Year (Girls Like)
Tinie Tempah is no stranger to the BRIT Awards. Having previously won two back in 2011 for Best Single (Pass Out) & Best Breakthrough Act, Tinie has been a fervent member of the UK Pop scene in the last decade.
This year he’s nominated for two more, all thanks to his massive hit Girls Like (feat. Zara Larsson). Coming off Tinie’s forthcoming album Youth which is scheduled to drop in March 2017, Girls Like’s rangy Organ sounds and catchy lyrics like “Tell JK that I’m still Rowling, Tell Russell I’m a Brand” had people of all ages dancing in the Summer of 2016.
It was so popular it secured Tinie Tempah another Top 5 hit, something which he is used to these days, after the release of other hits such as Turn the Music Louder (feat. Katy B) and Not Letting Go (feat. Jess Glynne). Let’s not forget the video either which amassed over 130 million plays on YouTube alone.
Girls Like is Tinie Tempah’s route to a BRIT Award this year. Lets’ see what happens on the night.
