The Rochdale Scandal between 2008 and 2012 shown institutional failure as twelve men were convicted of running a child exploitation ring in the Greater Manchester town.

The incident involved teenage girls who were the victims of sex trafficking and other offences including rape; up to 47 girls were identified as victims during the police investigation.

The scandal also shone a light on the institutional failure of Greater Manchester Police, who failed to investigate the child sexual exploitation allegations despite a sexual health worker having ‘blown the whistle’ on what was happening.

Following the BBC’s drama following the scandal, ‘Three Girls’, Chloe Combi and James Gilmore discussed the incident on Generation You and the different dangers of being male and female in an urban area.
