The six week school summer break has been in place for decades – but, over time, more people are starting to question this and discussions have begun on alternatives.

Some people argue that the six week summer break is unproductive, essentially causing a void of learning whereby students return to school having forgotten most of what they learnt the year before. In contrast, some people argue that the break should be longer as attention spans deteriorate one the summer season begins.

Furthermore, the six week break means that the price of holidays rise significantly, and perhaps students would be better off with more frequent, two-week holidays rather than this massive period of time off school.

Whilst both supports of the relaxing, bliss six week summer break, on Generation You, Chloe Combi and James Gilmore debated whether it’s time to look at other options to relax students, and scrap the six week summer break.
