And that band is LANCO.
Consisting of Brandon Lancaster (lead vocals and songwriter), Chandler Baldwin (bass), Jared Hampton (keyboards), Tripp Howell (drums) and Eric Steedly (guitar), the band (who’s name is short for ‘Lancaster and Company’) have defied all expectations by going #1 on the US Country Charts, the US Country Airplay Charts and now the Billboard Top Country Album Charts with debut album ‘Hallelujah Nights’ – the first time a band has done that since Lady Antebellum’s 2008 debut.
Despite being a ‘country band’, LANCO are different to what many outsiders would expect from country – instead using their own personal tastes and interests to create a sound closer to straight-up rock music.
This fusion of different genres may be one reason as to why they have received such cross-over support – including performances of ‘Ellen’ and ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’. Their single ‘Greatest Love Story’ has remained at #1 on the Country Charts – making them the first country band to achieve a platinum single prior to a debut album release.
Ahead of their album going to #1, and a month before they land in London to play the prestigious Country 2 Country festival - James Gilmore interviewed LANCO drummer Tripp Howell about the band’s journey, their live shows and what’s to come…
