Anne-Marie and Marshmello

In the modern music industry that we live in today it seems like it’s now a “thing” that there’s one big release each week and the others are just, really, the others. Luckily, Marshmello and Anne-Marie have come in the last minute to fill the hole as this week’s “big one”.

Featured Track: Marshmello & Anne-Marie – FRIENDS

Any song that is titled in all capital letters is immediately cool, so Marshmello and Anne-Marie (an unlikely coupling) have already won on that front. The meaning of the song is revealed in the first 15 seconds, repeated multiple times during the show and is literally spelt out half way through - Anne-Marie is only FRIENDS with you.

The song is a banger, if not only a bit too safe. Don’t get us wrong, we love a bit of Anne-Marie, but like someone we once knew called Anne-Marie, we got bored quite quickly. Also, this song is unlikely anything that Marshmello has ever done before so we’re not quite sure what that means.

Other Good Ones

Felix Jaehn – Cool (feat. Marc E. Bassy & Gucci Mane): We can’t help but think that Felix Jaehn is one of the most underrated producers and that Marc E. Bassy is one of the most underrated new pop artists. On the other hand, Gucci Mane literally says the D word in this song.

Calvin Harris – Nuh Ready Nuh Ready (feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR): One of those ‘surprise releases’, our mate Calvin has only gone and changed his sound completely again! Wow, a versatile producer? Twitter’s going to hate that.

Grace Carter – Silhouette: We featured Ms Carter as part of our BPI Future Fresh series long before he debut single ‘Silence’ gained 5.7M streams. On ‘Ashes’ she proved that her voice was awe-inspiring. Now on ‘Silhouette’ she proves that her songwriting is incredible too. Clap clap clap

Desmond John – I Mean That: You know when you hear a song and think, “Wow my cool points have just increased by 99.5%”? That’s what Desmond does on this track. A mixture between hip-hop, R&B, pop and rap, this song feels like exactly what we’ve been waiting for.

Peace – Power: They’re back! We actually love Peace and whilst the chorus to ‘Power’ is almost cringe-worthingly designed to be chanted at festivals, Harry’s song writing shines through and it’s a very welcome return.

Also Good, But Maybe Not Quite Good Enough For So Many Words

Sam Fender – Friday Fighting: We only discovered him two weeks ago and now he’s already back with a new single featuring socially conscious lyrics? IN LOVE.

Barns Courtney – Sinners: If you like stomping down the road in a rut, then Barns is your man.

Noah Cyrus – We Are… (feat. MO): Wow, you’re so cool for swearing in the chorus of your new single. We love Noah, we really do, and we've supported every other single she's realesed... but this feels a bit every other song that thinks it’s cooler than it is.
