Luca Schreiner has been waiting for his breakthrough – and he isn’t patient.
Gaining a reputation from his hot streak of remixes – including official remixes for Louis Tomlinson, James Arthur, Alessia Cara, Matoma and more, Schreiner has played festivals alongside the likes of Don Diablo, Felix Jaehn, Oliver Heldens and more.
Signed to Ultra Records; his debut single ‘Missing (feat. Kimberly Anne)’ has gained over 10M streams on Spotify, with 2017 record ‘Out of My Mind (feat. Loé)’ on over 2M streams.
Ahead of the release of his next single, Luca Schreiner took over The W!ZARD Sessions on W!ZARD Radio Station - and we sat down for an exclusive conversation with the rising DJ/producer to find out more about him.
WR: It’s our pleasure to be speaking with Luca Schreiner! Luca, how are you?
LS: Thanks for having me, I’m super well thank you!
WR: How did you first get interested in producing electronic music?
LS: My Dad has a music industry background, working with a lot of electronic music labels so I grew up with that particular music. I remember watching videos of Tiesto performing in front of thousands of people at huge festivals. I wanted to experience this on my own so I bought some standard gear and just started from scratch basically, learning everything through YouTube tutorials actually.
WR: You’ve worked with the likes of OMI, Shaggy, Roger Sanchez and more – who would you say has been your favourite artist to collaborate with?
LS: I wouldn’t say that I have a particular favorite, but working on one of my most recent ones for Louis Tomlinson was super fun. It fell together really fast, since I knew from the beginning what I wanted to do with it.
WR: What is your approach/process when you go to remix a song for the first time?
LS: I always try to work around the original vocal of a track really. I’m not a big fan of destroying the original vocal too much, instead I always try to give it more of a different instrumental direction without losing the original vibe too much.
WR: Your remixes of songs such as James Arthur’s ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ and Alessia Cara’s ‘Scars To Your Beautiful’ have generated millions of streams. Were you expecting this level of success from these remixes?
LS: It was such a big honor remixing these big artists and to be honest I still can’t really believe the success that these remixes received so far. Closing in on 20 million streams on the James Arthur one and another 4 million on my Alessia Cara remix is just surreal.
WR: Your latest single is 'Out of My Mind' featuring Loé – how did this song come about?
LS: I met Loé, (with whom I did the song together) about a year ago in New York and we were chatting back and forth about working on something together. He then sent me the initial idea of 'Out of My Mind' and I knew that this could be something special. I then tried to bring in my sounds and develop it a little further while sending it back and forth with him. It’s still one of my favorite tracks that I’ve ever worked on!
WR: Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
LS: There’s a pretty long list of people that I would love to collaborate with one day. I’d definitely would like to work with The Chainsmokers one day. Their writing is next level and it seems like they’re always ahead of the time.
WR: You’re taking over The W!ZARD Sessions on March 17th. What was your process for putting the mix together and what can listeners expect?
LS: The mix is packed with one hour of my favorite tracks at the moment that I also love to play out during my shows! You can expect uplifting melodies and groovy baselines mixed with some of todays well known vocals
WR: What else can we expect from you in 2018?
LS: A lot of new music! I’m constantly in the studio working on some new originals as well as some big remixes that are hopefully coming out really soon! Plus, I’ll be also back on tour again next month, playing at the World Club Cruise together with Robin Schulz, Lucas & Steve, Nervo and many more!
