Alessandro Ford went on a gap year with a difference.
Instead of travelling the world, or finding a job, he spent four months studying Korean at Kim Il Sung University in North Korea’s capital Pyongyang. He was the first Westerner to study in North Korea, and he’s been back several times since, most recently completing the Pyongyang Marathon.
His tale is one that few others share, and given his unique experience, he is well placed to give us an incredible insight into everyday university life in North Korea, the aspects of society, the peoples’ attitudes to the West, and – at this particularly turbulent yet fascinating time in global affairs – the politics of the nation that so few know about.
Alessandro Ford joined Benji Hyer on One-To-One with Benji Hyer, on Thursdays on W!ZARD Radio Station to dig deeper into North Korea and find out what life is actually like in the Communist state.
Broadcasted exclusively worldwide on W!ZARD Radio Station.
