We take you on a guided tour of the best, the good, and the quite good's of the week

There’s a few exceptions to the rules taking place this week; Sabrina Carpenter may have released her latest pop banger ‘Almost Love on Almost Not Friday (Wednesday) but we’re including it this week, whereas the new Kanye West + Kid Cudi album hasn’t dropped yet, and it’s Friday, so it’s all quite a mess really.
Featured Song: Sabrina Carpenter – Almost Love
In all honesty, when we first heard ‘Almost Love’ we didn’t quite know what to think. It’s not a massive pop banger like we’d come to expect with ‘Thumbs’, ‘Hands’ and other body-related tracks (oh, and ‘Why’ and ‘First Love’ and ‘Alien’ and you get the point) and we’re not quite sure what “it’s almost love, but it could be love” actually means – but we’re here for the journey!!
This is Sabrina Carpenter coming into her own, with a slightly more mature pop sound that isn’t attempting to follow trends too heavily. We love it because it’s Sabrina and we can imagine it playing at a BBQ we may/may not have this summer.
Other Good Ones
Social House – Magic In The Hamptons (feat. Lil Yachty): Stealing the spotlight for us this week is the debut single from new duo Social House. Let’s put it this way, the song has only just been released and Ariana Grande already put it on her Insta Story. It screams SONG OF THE SUMMER without lazily chasing current trends. It’s just a no-holds-barred great track which will definitely be on that BBQ playlist.
Why Don’t We – Hooked: These boys keep pushing the bar higher and higher! This single is the follow-up to Ed Sheeran-penned ‘Trust Fund Baby’ (another global smash) and just proves that WDW may just be the next massive global boyband. Obviously we’ve known that for a while, but the world is just starting to catch up. The music video for this track is also insanely magical and worth a watch.
Tove Lo – bitches (feat. Charli XCX, Icona Pop, Elliphant & ALMA): To say that this single is “sexually charged” would be to ignore the fact that there’s a hairless cat on the front cover. Tove Lo (who’s latest iteration of her logo is a diagram of a certain part of a woman’s body) is not holding back; but beyond the fact that the lyrics made us throw up in our mouths a little bit, it’s a good song. And a good song is a good song. So listen to it… just maybe on headphones.
Lewis Capaldi – Tough: This release surprised us because it’s marginally upbeat, whereas Lewis Capaldi is usually there to make us cry now he’s proving he’s of Arena quality. In his new single he sings about losing a love and the toughness of breaking up. Oh how true he is! A top quality release from somebody we’d bet money on being huge very very soon.
Also Good, But Maybe Not Quite Good Enough For So Many Words
Becky Hill – Sunrise In The East: Becky’s back! She’s been around the block for a bit (featuring on Matoma’s ‘False Alarm’ in 2016 and releasing the banger ‘Losing’ in 2014) but now she’s here to stay. Sunrise In The East is a great summer vibe too, very impressive.
Lily Ahlberg – Flashing The Lights: Lils (our name for her) has released the perfect follow-up to our other favourite song of hers, debut single ‘Bad Boys’. Swedish pop at it’s finest.
