It's one of the biggest questions asked by new musicians in the modern music landscape: the importance of social media for a music career.
In years past, we have witnessed influencers getting signed purely off the back of massive social media followings - think KSI and, even, Australian prank collective The Janoskians. Whether they had the knack for music or not, their loyal followers helped sell records for a short time. But, at the same time, global sensations such as Troye Sivan and even Shawn Mendes were initially helped by having giant followings before they got signed.
But, nowadays, how important is it to have loads of followers before getting signed? Or are we back to the "good old days" of being able to get signed based on the quality of music alone?
On the latest "Questions & Answers" segment on ReverbNation Discover, we answered the listener-submitted question: How important is social media to your music career?
Listen to James Gilmore replying to the listener’s question and gain that crucial insight to push your music career ambitions in the clip below.
